Academic opportunities

Endeavour Sports High School provides a wealth of opportunity for students to engage in a variety of experiences, depending upon their interest and abilities.

Below is a sample of some of the programs that are available at our school.

Creative and Performing Arts

School Performances

Music and Drama groups perform regularly at school and year assemblies. Some groups are selected to perform at special events.

School Band

Rehearse at lunch.

Gallery Visits

Students visit local galleries such as Hazelhurst and larger galleries such as AGNSW and MCA

Lunchtime Exhibitions

These are held for students completing units of work. These are short term displays and allow the student to take on the role of curator.

English

The Reading Challenge

Students can enter either the Premiers’ Reading Challenge, the Australian Readers’ Challenge or the Principal’s Reading Challenge. Certificates are issued to all who complete the challenges.

HSC Lecture Days and Revision Seminars

Revision is offered in the period leading up to the HSC exams, where students can hone their skills and are taught specific exam and study techniques as well as exam time management.

HSIE

Excursions

  • Students in Years 7-12 take part in a range of excursions/field trips to enrich and extend their learning
  • Year 7 – The Rocks archaeological dig
  • Year 8 – Fieldwork in the local area, Jamberoo, Guest speakers
  • Year 9 – Canberra, Miranda Shopping Centre (Commerce)
  • Year 10 – Cronulla Beach, Guest speakers, Guest speakers, Guest speakers
  • Years 11 and 12 – Field trips to Towra Point, 5 star hotels (hotel management), The Downing Centre, Guest speakers

Technology and Applied Studies – Home Economics

Food Technology

Students studying Food Technology in both junior and senior courses will have the opportunity to visit leading Sydney restaurants. They see firsthand how these enterprises operate as well as experience the huge variety of cuisines available.

Textiles

Students in years 9 to 12 visit exhibitions related to the use and manipulation of textiles. They visit the Sydney Craft Show and have the opportunity to see annual fashion parades presented by the fashion students from St George TAFE.

Hospitality

Hospitality students participate in 70 hours work placement where they work in a commercial environment. They develop their skills, improve their confidence and self esteem and improve their capacity to work in teams. A variety of work placement venues are available from 5 star hotels, to local restaurants, cafes and club bistros.

Hospitality students cater for various school events allowing them to broaden their experience and present their skills to the school and community. Some opportunities include the Regional Principal’s meeting, Open Night and P&C functions.

In 2010 the Hospitality faculty opened a café – coffee bound café – which students operate and manage. Students learn how to use a commercial espresso machine, producing beverages for sale to school staff.
